BS Degree in Sociology: Social Inequalities Concentration
Checksheet
The social inequalities concentration examines how human differences in terms of such dimensions as gender, race, ethnicity, social class, sexuality, age, and nationality may lead to unequal outcomes in terms of power, status, and income. Not only are the causes and consequences of various social inequalities and social stratification systems examined, but so are policies and practices designed to alleviate these conditions.
Along with developing strong written and oral communication skills, students in this concentration learn to understand human diversity and how to work with diverse populations. Job prospects include the areas of personnel and human resource management, working for social service or government agencies, and employment with non-profit and community organizations. In addition, this concentration serves as excellent preparation for graduate school in sociology or related fields.
