Andres Fisher
was born in 1963 in Washington DC. He was raised in Chile where he got a MD in 1988 at Universidad de Valparaíso. In 1990 he moved to Spain where he obtained a PhD in Sociology at Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 1997. His doctoral dissertation Perfil biopsicosocial del consumo del cannabis en el contexto de las drogas ( Bio - psychosocial profile of cannabis use in the drugs context ) was published in 2001 (UCM, servicio de publicaciones, Madrid) and is available online

 

Since 2004, he has been teaching at ASU, both in the Department of Sociology and Social Work and in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures (Spanish Literature and Culture). His fields of specialization in Sociology are Medical Sociology, Drugs and Social Psychology. His last publication in the field was En torno a las drogas: su manejo y su repercusión mediática, (Around drugs: their media presence and repercussion) (Intersticios, Revista sociológica de pensamiento critico, Murcia, Spain, 2007) and he is currently working on an article to be released in June 2008 in Spain about drugs prohibition from the social constructionist viewpoint.
