BS Degree in Sociology: High School Social Science Teaching Concentration
This major is designed for students who want to teach the social sciences (sociology, history, geography, anthropology, political science, and economics) in high school.
A Social Science, B.S. Teaching student must, in addition to possessing a good foundation of general knowledge and oral/written communication skills, be interested in people. Teaching involves face-to-face contact with students, parents and administrators which makes oral communication, listening and situation evaluation important. Careers in this area often include written work in the form of class notes, worksheets and exams.
Students in this concentration are well-prepared to pursue graduate education in programs not only related to education, but in general sociology, or other social sciences, as well.
