Minor in Sociology

A minor in Sociology consists of SOC 1000 and fifteen additional hours in Sociology. Nine of those fifteen hours must be from among courses at the 3000 or 4000 level. SOC 4900 (the internship) cannot be counted toward the required 18 hours for a minor.

A Sociology minor is helpful in providing an understanding of human groups and how they work and can provide a valuable foundation to any student who plans to work with people.

As an academic discipline, Sociology offers valuable preparation for many types of careers includibng law, business, education, public health, politics, and public administration to name a few. It offers the student distinctive ways of looking at the world and helps generate new ideas and a means to assess long-held ideas. In addition, Sociology provides a range of research techniques and methodologies which can be applied to different areas and situations.
