Graduate
The MA in Gerontology primarily prepares you for a career in the field of aging services and/or research, such as a position with an Area Agency on Aging, which oversees services in a multi-county region, or as a nursing home or assisted living administrator, a (lucrative) field where there's growing demand. Some students, upon receiving the MA in Gerontology, decide upon a career as a college or university professor, in which case they will apply to PhD programs. The MA in Gerontology is a fine foundation for doctoral work in various social science and human services fields.
The Graduate Certificate in Gerontology is composed of 15 hours of coursework and is designed for three types of students
- Those currently working in Aging or Human Services who need or desire formal training in Gerontology, but not a Masters Degree
- Those in related Masters Degree programs, whose value to employers would be raised by formal training in Gerontology.
- Those who are interested in graduate training in Gerontology but are not yet certain whether or not they want a Masters Degree.
Program Highlights
- You can expect to complete the MA program in 2 years, with 30 credit hours including a thesis or 36 credit hours without a thesis.

Minimum Criteria for Unconditional Admission*: UGPA 2.75 or higher; GREV + GREQ = 900 or higher
*Meeting this condition guarantees consideration of admission. In exceptional circumstances and with special permission from the Graduate School a limited number of students who do not meet this minimum may be granted admission.
